On Friday, March 20th, the New Jersey Governor and New Jersey Attorney General held a press conference announcing that the state and Roxbury Township are filing a federal lawsuit against the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Immigration Customs and Enforcement.
The lawsuit includes argues that DHS violated 4 federal laws:
- National Environmental Policy Act
- Administrative Procedure Act
- Intergovernmental Cooperation Act
- Immigration and Nationality Act
We are thankful for this news and the collaboration between the state and our town.
The multiple and negative impacts on Roxbury and the area have been well documented and publicized at nearly weekly Roxbury Town Council meetings since early January. The opposition to the warehouse becoming an ICE facility has been bipartisan. The lawsuit reflects that.
While this is a very encouraging first step in delaying and potentially stopping the ICE facility, we know that the work goes on. We continue to partner with groups who stand against this warehouse. We support Roxbury leadership to further their pursuit in every legal action to protect our community and our resources.
We strongly encourage residents to persist in speaking out, showing up and contacting local officials. Standing together has been a driving force in this lawsuit.
