Attend Local Meetings

Local Government Spotlight

The Roxbury Town Council meets tonight, July 12, IN PERSON ONLY at 7:30PM at Town Hall in Ledgewood.

This is the first, regular Town Council meeting that will be limited to in person attendance in over 2 years.  The recent decision to eliminate a virtual option is a disappointing one to us.  As members of the public noted at the June 28th meeting, there are residents in town that attend virtually for reasons that many people can relate to: mobility issues, child care, prefer not to drive at night, and so on.   Some Council members have participated virtually at nearly every meeting, including the June 28th one.

The reasons for eliminating the Zoom option (staffing, money) were mentioned but not up for discussion.  The council had discussed this privately and made their decision. Suggestions for how to address those problems were given by members of the public.  The council was not interested in any other outcome than to limit attendance.

The decision and some public response was covered by local media:
http://www.tapinto.net/towns/roxbury/sections/government/articles/remote-viewing-residents-fume-as-roxbury-ends-zoom

Furthermore, we are disappointed that the Town Council made the decision without any public input nor add it, in advance, to the meeting agenda.

We believe in providing as much public access to local government meetings as possible, not less.  We also believe that our community deserves more than the bare minimum of communication and transparency from our elected and appointed officials.

“It’s the least we can do” should never be the highest standard a governing body should set for itself and the people that they represent.

We encourage residents to attend the public meetings that are available.

We are working to re-elect Congressman Tom Malinowski to the House and reducing the out of pocket expenses for prescriptions is just one reason why.

This is a big step in the right direction to make healthcare more affordable in the US.

We love our country and support representatives who work tirelessly to help the people they represent. Case in point - Congressman Malinowski continues to support infrastructure investment, affordable & accessible healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights, protecting our environment, preserving fair & secure elections, and so on.

He and his staff are accessible, helpful and professional.

Reposted from @malinowskifornj I love this country and revere our institutions. America is not a banana republic and federal law enforcement is not the Gestapo. Politicians turning Americans against the FBI and our system of justice are wrong.

Could @tomkean Jr. join me on @foxnews to say any of that?

Reposted from @malinowskifornj A fact check:

✔️ There've been no layoffs at Linden's Bayway refinery in the last couple of years, according to the company (Phillips 66) and unions. In fact, they're hiring.

✔️ Kean must have missed that the US economy added 500,000 jobs in July, thanks to policies he opposed.

But there's more to this story than just Tom Kean Jr. making stuff up. In fact, US oil companies could be investing & hiring more to ramp up production at refineries, but have chosen not to, which keeps gas prices higher, and boosts their profits and shareholder dividends.

Here's the CEO of another oil company, Devon Energy, admitting that he could be producing more to get gas prices down faster, but would rather invest profits in stock buybacks.

Phillips 66, which owns the Bayway refinery, is no different -- it recently announced it would be ploughing $2.5 billion into share buybacks.

And guess who is one of the shareholders who benefits from that?

Yup. @tomkean Jr.

Kean also invests in Exxon, BP, and ConocoPhillips, and has taken $100,000 in campaign contributions from oil companies and PACs, including from Phillips 66. So I believe him that if elected, he'll prioritize policies that help them.

I'll prioritize policies that help you.
