Roxbury Begins Search for New School Superintendent

As part of our mission to encourage engagement in local events, we are providing the following information on the School Superintendent search. We do this because we are all residents of this town and this is an important local issue. Tom Malinowski recognizes the importance of local school boards and is returning to the public eye by organizing around the topic of education.

The Roxbury Public School District has begun the process of searching for a new Superintendent, as the current one is retiring at the end of the school year in June.

There are opportunities for the public to contribute to the search.  All residents are encouraged to participate, regardless if you are a current student or parent/guardian of a current student.  The quality of a school district impacts much of our town, and all residents should have a say in the leadership that determines how our school district is run.

The Board of Education has created a page on the district’s website to explain the search process.  To learn about the process, visit: https://www.roxbury.org/supersearch

There is also a survey that residents are asked to fill out and submit to the Board.  To participate in the survey, visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RoxburySearch

The deadline to participate in the survey is:  March 27, 2023

There are 3 seats for the Board of Education on the ballot in this year’s election.  The past few years have seen increased tensions between many school boards, teachers, administrators and parents, including in Roxbury.

Too often, voters are unaware of who is on the BoE or running to be elected to the BoE.  We believe that voter apathy can be detrimental to the quality of Board of Education members, who in turn impact our schools, teachers and students. The quality of our public education system is a strong factor in the well being and preparedness of our students as they grow into young adults and citizens, the quality of life in our community, and the values of our homes.

Our former Congressman, Tom Malinowski, recognizes the importance of public education, quality administrations and committed, elected members of Boards of Education.  He is now working on addressing the many issues regarding these things.  Find out more in this recent piece:

We will share more about his new work as opportunities to help out become available.
