SUMMARY:Book Club - December
DESCRIPTION:This month\, the “book” being discussed will be The Bill of Rights part of The Constitution of the United States. For many of us\, the last time we really looked at the Constitution and the Bill of Rights was in high school. It’s time for a refresher course. We are proud and honored to welcome back our guest speaker: Scott Riotto. Mr. Scott Riotto presented The Constitution of the United States to us in September. \n\n\n\nMr. Scott Riotto\, B.A.\, M.S.Ed.\, M.A. is a lifelong NJ resident and 35 year public high school history teacher.  In 1991\, Mr. Riotto began his professional teaching career in Bergen County where he grew up.  Since 1994\, Mr. Riotto has been a history teacher at Montville Township High School (MTHS)\, where he mainly teaches Sophomore United States History I Honors and Senior Advanced Placement Government & Politics.  His specialty is the Founding Era (the Declaration\, the Constitution\, and the Bill of Rights).  Mr. Riotto wrote and taught a Constitutional Law course at MTHS.  He also taught Constitutional Law at a Rutgers-Newark Saturday Academy.  In addition\, Mr. Riotto was an adjunct history professor at County College of Morris (CCM) from 2003-2023. \n\n\n\nMr. Riotto received his Bachelor’s in History from the University of Pennsylvania\, his Master’s in Education from the University of Pennsylvania\, and his Masters in American History from Rutgers-Newark. \n\n\n\nMr. Riotto has been a Roxbury (Succasunna) resident since 2004 and enjoys seasonal walks at Horseshoe Lake. \n\n\n\nThe format for the evening will be a split between lecture and Q&A. We recommend the pocket version of the Constitution for it’s portability. Pocket Constitutions that include the Bill of Rights are available from a variety of sellers. We recommend: \n\n\n\n\nthe National Archives (includes Bill of Rights and all amendments)\n\n\n\nthe ACLU (includes all above as well as “Know Your Rights”)\n\n\n\n\nPlease consider attending and invite others. Registration is required and you can register via the button below. If you have signed up for a previous session of the Book Club\, there is no need to sign up again. While this Book Club is hosted by the Roxbury Township Democratic Committee\, it is open to all.  \n\n\n\nThe Book Club will begin at 6 pm and wrap up no later than 8 pm. Our intention is to also offer a Zoom option with the link being provided via email prior to the meeting. SUMMARY:Book Club - October
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join our “Book Club\,” which is more like a study group\, with “Project 2025” being our main subject.  This month’s topic to focus on is Healthcare. We are not experts and will not be relying on our own understanding of what might happen\, rather we will be sourcing topical discussions about the impact of Project 2025\, the recent budget legislation and the current government shutdown from subject matter experts. These resources will be distributed before the session to be read in advance. The book club will discuss the materials and try to identify the impact on Roxbury\, Morris County and NJ as well as talk about how we might prepare to meet any challenges.
